Wyong Tafe Animal Studies Facility
Wyong, NSW
The Animal Studies Training Centre at TAFE NSW Wyong has been designed as a specialist facility to prepare the next generation of animal care professionals. Delivered through a $4.9 million investment, the project replaces the former Block K with a state-of-the-art building, now known as Block O.
EJE Architecture was engaged to design a contemporary education facility that could seamlessly integrate theoretical learning with hands-on veterinary training. The design responds to both educational and industry standards, creating a fit-for-purpose environment that simulates real-world veterinary settings.
Facilities include classrooms, workshops, a surgery and imaging room, grooming and hydrotherapy areas, and specialised housing for small animals, poultry and aviary species. External spaces incorporate kennels, a dog run and breakout areas, reinforcing the practical, immersive learning model.
With more than 480 students supported each semester, the building needed to deliver light-filled, comfortable and energy efficient spaces that enhance concentration while remaining robust enough to withstand high daily use.
Collaborative Construction Solutions were appointed as the builder to deliver the project, bringing the architectural vision to life. The construction involved extensive civil works and structural infrastructure to accommodate the specialised training facilities and animal care environments.
Working closely with the architect and client, Collaborative coordinated the integration of building systems to ensure performance, durability and compliance were achieved across the development.
In partnership with Collaborative, PCW Commercial Windows were the awarded glazing subcontractor, delivering high performance fabrication and installation of the window systems throughout the facility.
To meet the performance requirements outlined in the design, PCW worked with Viridian to supply high performance SolTech™ insulating glass units (IGUs) and single glazing.
The glazing solution was selected to support thermal comfort, daylight performance and durability within an educational environment.
SolTech™ features low visible light reflection and high light transmission, maximising natural daylight penetration while maintaining internal comfort across all seasons. This reduces reliance on artificial lighting and supports a bright, engaging learning environment.
Strategically positioned glazing strengthens the visual connection between internal teaching spaces and outdoor training areas, enhancing openness while maintaining appropriate acoustic separation. In privacy-sensitive areas such as surgery and imaging rooms, glazing was carefully integrated to balance transparency with operational functionality.
Durability was a key consideration. SolTech™ provides long-term performance suited to high-use educational facilities, supporting reduced maintenance and ongoing comfort for staff and students.
The Wyong TAFE Animal Studies Training Centre represents a significant investment in vocational education on the Central Coast. Through the design leadership of EJE Architecture, the construction expertise of Collaborative Construction Solutions, the glazing delivery by PCW Commercial Windows and the supply of high-performance SolTech™ glass by Viridian, the facility achieves the balance of functionality, durability and energy performance required for a modern training environment.
The result is a transformative learning hub that equips students with real-world skills in a space designed to inspire, perform and endure.
