Viridian ThermoTech™ Metal Spacer

Increase insulation with reduced solar heat gain

Metal Spacer

Viridian ThermoTech™ can be selected from the complete range of Viridian glass products including solar control, Low-Emissivity, DécorPatterned and screen printed decoration glass. The glass can be toughened or laminated for safety. In addition to solar and thermal insulation, specific combinations can reduce noise, provide bushfire resistance and increase security. Viridian Renew™ self cleaning glass is also available.

By incorporating Viridian EnergyTech™ Low E glass (refer to page 45) to the inner panel of ThermoTech, the Low E glass offers a significant increase in insulation and reduced solar heat gains without sacrificing daylight. EnergyTech has a Low E coating that is clear and is glazed to surface number three of the unit. The Low E coating performs a dual function of allowing passive solar gains and through reflection, keeps heat within the building. If combined with a solar control glass, it acts as a second defence reflecting heat gains outside.

The selection chart below shows an example of the wide range of solar performance that is available with the thermal insulation of ThermoTech. This provides a huge range of options to customise an energy management solution. For further technical information refer to performance data tables.

Insulation performance

The width of the spacer and the performance characteristics of the glass selected such as EnergyTech determine the U Value.

Viridian recommends increasing the spacer then adding EnergyTech Low E to economically enhance the insulation performance of the insulating glass unit. Changing the spacer type to TPS® and argon gas will also significantly enhance the total window perfomance.

Viridian Comparison Chart

Reduced condensation

ThermoTech reduces the incidence of condensation. The onset of condensation on the glass depends on the relative indoor humidity, thermal transmittance of the glazing (U Value) and the relative indoor and outdoor temperatures. The lower the U Value, the less likely condensation will occur.

TPS® is available in some markets as standard option – other markets by request. Metal spacer is available in some markets as standard option – other markets by request.

ThermoTech™
Metal Spacer

ThermoTech comprises two panels of glass separated by a metal spacer that is sealed with a primary vapour and a secondary structural seal to provide a hermetically sealed airspace. The spacer has a dessicant to prevent moisture forming inside the ThermoTech unit.
