Fire Protection

Pyrostop ®

Dependable and passive transparent fire protection with the unlimited design potential of glass.

Considerations

Fire resistant glasses must only be used as part of an approved system. SYSTEM means the glass, frame, framing materials and fixings to the surrounding structure, as tested together.

Integrity

The ability of the system to keep back flames and hot gases. No flaming on the non-fire side within the approved time classification.

Insulation

Temperature rise on the unexposed fire side shall not be more than 140ºC (average value) or 180ºC (maximum individual value) above ambient temperature.

Pyrostop

The family of Pyrostop fire resistant glasses is designed to meet Fire Resistant Levels (FRL) of up to - /120/120 insulation and integrity without compromising glass transparency in building design. High performance, clear fire resistant glazing creates opportunities in design for natural light and transparent vision, an important element in creating open, user-friendly buildings. Being able to combine natural lighting with the highest levels of fire protection and all the other functional benefits of glass is unique.

Description

Pyrostop is an integral laminate of glass and special intumescent interlayers which give the product its ‘integrity plus insulation’ fire resistant characteristics.

  • The interlayer absorbs heat and provides an insulating layer that minimises radiant heat transfer
  • During a fire the, interlayers turn opaque to visually block out the fire, signalling to firefighters and occupiers, the fire location
  • The interlayers bond to the glass to help keep the glass in place The product can be supplied in single or double glazed form depending on the level of fire resistance required. The thicker the glass the better the fire resistant performance.
